Good to know

This is not a Louisiana-themed rental. This is the real thing. Welcome to the personal camp of Louisiana artisan Eric Couvillion, master craftsman and owner of Live Edge Woodworks. Located directly on Bayou La Rose with access to the Atchafalaya Basin, the camp is filled with handcrafted sinker cypress furniture, family photographs, artifacts and pieces that tell the story of a life spent in the Louisiana swamps. The cypress found throughout the house was recovered from the same waterways and wetlands surrounding the camp. Every slab has its own markings, character and history, giving guests the rare opportunity to live among functional works of Louisiana art. The Experience Wake up beneath the oak trees, drink your coffee on the screened porch and watch the bayou come to life. Spend the day fishing, boating or exploring the Atchafalaya Basin. Return to the camp for dinner, gather around the fire pit and trade stories beneath the trees. When you are ready for a night out, Cajun food, live music and dancing are all part of the surrounding culture. Bring your fishing poles, dancing shoes and adventure gear. This is a place to slow down, get outside and experience South Louisiana beyond the usual tourist trail. Sinker Cypress Story Eric Couvillion has spent decades recovering historic sinker cypress and transforming it into custom tables, mantels, desks and live-edge furniture. The camp serves as a living gallery of that craftsmanship. Guests will find one-of-a-kind pieces made by Eric throughout the house, along with photographs and objects collected during family adventures in the basin. These are not mass-produced decorations. They are pieces of Louisiana history, created by the craftsman whose camp you are staying in. Outdoor Living The outdoor spaces are at the heart of the property. Enjoy slow mornings on the screened porch, afternoons beneath the oak trees and evenings gathered around the fire. The bayou setting creates a peaceful place to reconnect while remaining close to the outdoor experiences, food and music that make Cajun Country unforgettable. Sleeping Arrangements Primary bedroom: One queen bed Bunk room: Three custom-style bunk beds, each with a queen bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top Maximum occupancy: Eleven guests Although the available beds can physically accommodate more people, occupancy is limited to eight registered guests. NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS Bayou La Rose sits within the natural and cultural landscape of Louisiana’s Atchafalaya Basin. The area is known for winding waterways, cypress trees, wildlife, fishing, hunting and generations of families whose lives are closely connected to the swamp. This is an authentic rural bayou setting rather than a resort community. Guests come here for nature, quiet mornings, outdoor adventures and access to the food, music and traditions of Cajun Country. Nearby experiences may include boat launches, fishing areas, locally owned Cajun restaurants, live music venues, seasonal festivals and guided swamp adventures. Driving is necessary, and travel times can vary depending on the destination and water conditions. THE AREA The camp is located directly on Bayou La Rose, a waterway connected to the Atchafalaya Basin. The surrounding area is best suited for guests who appreciate: Fishing and boating Hunting and outdoor recreation Birding and wildlife Louisiana craftsmanship Cajun food and culture Live music and dancing Quiet rural escapes Family and group adventures Because this is an authentic bayou environment, guests may encounter insects, frogs, lizards, birds and other native wildlife. Water levels, weather and seasonal conditions can also change the appearance and accessibility of outdoor areas. That is part of the experience—but guests who prefer a polished resort environment may be happier elsewhere.

Other Details to Note

This is a waterfront property in a natural swamp environment. Children & pets must be supervised at all times, particularly near the bayou, deck, fire pit and outdoor areas. Alligators are common visitors in the area! Wildlife sightings are possible but never guaranteed. Guests should never approach, feed or disturb alligators or other wildlife. Please do not get close to the water if an alligator is present. They may try to come onto the land looking for food. Fishing and hunting require all applicable Louisiana licenses, permits and seasonal compliance. Guided hunts and tours are separate businesses and are not included with the accommodation. Cellular service and internet performance may vary in rural areas. Guests seeking a true bayou escape usually consider that a feature, not a bug. Speaking of bugs, mosquitos are known as our second state bird. Pack accordingly. Bug spray is a must, especially at night.
